Role of the Teacher

In a traditional classroom, a teacher is typically seen presenting lessons to the entire class at once from the front of the room. Montessori teachers have a different role. They are inspiring individuals who observe and seek to understand what motivates each child, providing essential feedback and support. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, students are met where they are through personalized learning experiences. Moving about the classroom, teachers assist children in making choices, present individualized lessons, and foster connections between new concepts and real-world applications. They serve as coaches, guiding students in navigating social interactions and fostering collaboration.

In the Montessori environment, the teacher's role is to create an optimal learning environment by carefully designing and preparing the classroom. They relinquish control to the children, allowing them to explore and discover within the boundaries set. A Montessori teacher serves as a guide, mentor, and friend, facilitating the child's educational journey, nurturing their independence, and supporting their overall growth and development.

The teacher controls the environment, not the children. A Montessori teacher is a guide, mentor, and friend.
